Is certificate and license required to be an interpreter?

This depends on the state in which you live and/or intend on doing work as an interpreter.

In the State of Missouri, it is required to have both a certification and license in order to practice. The Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (MCDHH) oversees certification, and the Division of Professional Registration, State Committee of Interpreters (SCI) oversees licensure.

For more information on certification, please visit the www.mchh.mo.gov

For more information on licensure, please visit https://pr.mo.gov/interpreters

If you intend on doing work in more than one state, it is required for you to be in compliance with each states' requirements and laws.
